Man Dies After Being Restrained By Police In Poole

An independent investigation is underway after the death of a man who had contact with Dorset Police.

Police were called to The Avenue in Poole at around 4.12pm on Tuesday (11 April) over concerns for the welfare of a man who was reported to be acting erratically and walking in and out of traffic.

He was restrained by officers while they reportedly assessed the situation, but he suffered a medical emergency. Police performed CPR whilst waiting for ambulance crews to arrive at the scene.

The man was taken to Poole Hospital for further treatment, but his condition deteriorated and he died in hospital yesterday morning (12 April).

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers.

Following procedure, the case has now been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission who are now investigating what happened.
