Bournemouth Dad In Court Over Baby's Murder

A Bournemouth man, accused of killing his three-month-old son, has been remanded in custody after appearing in court.

33-year-old Robert Hinz was charged with murder after Julian Hinz was found seriously injured at a flat in Carysfort Road in Boscombe on 8 April 2016. The baby boy was taken to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, then Southampton General for specialist treatment, but he died there at 5.10am the following morning.

His death was treated as suspicious and a murder investigation led by the Major Crime Investigation Team was launched.

On Tuesday 3 May 2016, Julian's father - 33-year-old Robert Edmond Hinz of Bournemouth - was charged with murder and appeared before Bournemouth Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 4 May. He's been remanded in custody, to appear at Winchester Crown Court on Friday 6 May.

Detective Inspector Richard Dixey, of Dorset Police's Major Crime Investigation Team, said: "Following a thorough and detailed investigation, we have consulted with the Crown Prosecution Service who has authorised the charge of murder.

"Family liaison officers have updated Julian's family with this development and our thoughts are with them.

"I would appeal for the family to be given privacy at this extremely difficult and traumatic time.

"It is also important to stress - as is typical in such circumstances - that it would be entirely inappropriate for Dorset Police to comment further ahead of the trial. It is vital that the justice system is allowed to follow its course."
