Police investigating the discovery of a baby's body at a railway station say they've bailed a 16-year-old girl who had been arrested.

The newborn girl was discovered in a plastic bag at around 11.20am on Wednesday, May 26, by a cleaner who was emptying bins near to the southbound platform at Fleet train station.

An ambulance was called but the child was pronounced dead at the scene. The body was taken to hospital and was found to have suffered significant injuries that were not caused during childbirth.

Detectives are working closely with British Transport Police to establish how the baby girl came to be at the train station.
