A 9-year-old girl has been seriously injured after she was hit by a bicycle.

It happened at 2.25pm on Friday 26 July along Pinecliff Road by the entrance to Branksome Beach.

9-year-old Leila Crofts suffered serious injuries and remains in a critical condition at Southampton General Hospital.

Leila's parents, Chanine and Darren, wish to ask that everyone's thoughts and prayers are with Leila as the next 48 hours are a critical period in her recovery. They would also like to request that their privacy is respected at this difficult time as they support their daughter and each other.

A 38-year-old Bournemouth man was arrested in connection with this incident after presenting himself at a police station and has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101, quoting incident number 26:311. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
