No Changes At New Forest Level Crossing
Network Rail says nothing needs to be done to improve Brockenhurst level crossing in the New Forest, even after an 85-year-old woman took a wrong turn last Thursday (26th January) and ended up driving 80 yards down the track.
She wasn't hurt but had to be treated for shock.
It did cause big delays to trains for a couple of hours.
It's believed she was taking her 20-year-old grandson to Brockenhurst station, and turned too early for the entrance to the car park and ended up going along the tracks.
The Hampshire County Council leader Ken Thornber - who is also a local councillor for Brockenhurst - is reported as saying that safety at the level crossing should be looked at.
But Network Rail says the crossing's already clearly marked, and this is the only problem they've had there for years.
A Network Rail spokesperson said: “This was clearly driver error which is being dealt with by the police. The level crossing is already very clearly marked and we are not considering making any changes to itas a result of this incident.”
