Olympic Sailing Venue Offers Weddings

You can now get married where the 2012 Olympic sailing events were held in Dorset.

The venue at Weymouth and Portland has been granted approval for Civil Marriage ceremonies to be held. Whilst previously the venue had hosted wedding receptions, the grant of the licence to host the Marriage Ceremony itself now means that couples can go to the Academy for both the ceremony and the subsequent reception.

Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA), which played host to the sailing at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, says it has already proved extremely popular with numerous wedding receptions booked in around the busy sailing schedule.

They said:

'The Sailing Academy nestled in the breath-taking setting of the Portland harbour, is famous for its Olympic history, allowing couples to re-live the Olympic memory throughout their special day. The venue is set to be an extremely popular wedding venue with Olympians and sporting enthusiasts, and could be an ideal venue for Olympic stars to tie the knot.

'The superb facilities and fantastic location along the beautiful British coastline enable couples to create a truly memorable experience to celebrate their special day. The staff at the Academy are committed to providing a first class service making it a day to remember for all.'
