Police Officer To Compete In Triathlon

A north Bournemouth Safer Neighbourhood Officer is set to compete in the 2011 European Triathlon Championships in Spain later this year.

PC Rob Hammond, of the West Howe Safer Neighbourhood Team, will be competing in a 750 metre open-water swim, followed by a 20 kilometre bike ride and a 5 kilometre run at the event, in Spain, this June.

PC Hammond will represent Ireland – his mother’s place of birth – at this event for the third year running. In 2009 he competed in the standard distance and was placed 58th. He followed this up in 2010, coming in 21st place. This year, PC Hammond has been selected for the shorter sprint distance and is hoping his training will earn him a podium place.

PC Hammond said:

“I am thrilled to have qualified for this year’s European Triathlon Championships and I look forward to seeing if I can improve on my previous position.

“I hope my training will lead to a podium place in Spain”.
