Poole Lifting Bridge During Air Festival

Additional lifts of Poole Bridge will be provided on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 August 2011 while the Bournemouth Air Show takes place.

This popular event held in Bournemouth sees a number of boat owners travelling through Poole Bridge over the air festival weekend to watch the events from the bay.

Extra lifts were successfully introduced last year and provided boat owners with additional sailing times. This reduced the number of boats going through the bridge at normal lifting times, aiding the safety of mariners. With fewer boats at peak times each bridge lift was quicker causing less disruption to road traffic.

Extra lifts at 8.30am, 11.30am and 3.30pm on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 August 2011 have been scheduled over the course of the air festival weekend.

These lifts will be in addition to normal lifting times. The full schedule of lifting times can be found on HERE

Councillor Xena Dion, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transportation, Borough of Poole, said:

"The additional bridge lifts offer alternative sailing times for mariners, which will reduce congestion for both mariners and motorists at peak times. This is likely to be an extremely busy weekend and some disruption will be inevitable. However, we anticipate these measures will keep this to a minimum. We apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused."

Motorists will be alerted via the variable message road signs in the area.
