Pub Closed As Part Of Drugs Inquiry

Police investigating drug-dealing at a pub in Weymouth have arrested seven people.

Just before 10pm on Thursday October the 25th, Dorset police carried out a Misuse of Drugs Act warrant at the George Inn on Custom House Quay. It followed a two-month investigation to gather evidence.

Officers found and seized a substantial amount of cash and substances thought to be Class A drugs.

Seven people were arrested on suspicion of drug offences; three men aged 33, 37, 63 and three women aged 33, 35 and 57 and a 17 year old boy. They are all from Weymouth.

On Friday October the 26th, police presented evidence to the licensing committee at Weymouth Counci. The license for the George Inn has been suspended, meaning it can't open until further notice. There'll be a full hearing on the 20th of November.

DI Marcus Hester said:

"This sends a clear messge to landlords that police wil not tolerate drug dealing within licences premises or indeed within the Dorset area and we will continue to proactively target anyone involved in drug supply".
