Teenager Attacked in Bournemouth

Detectives in Bournemouth are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward following an attack in the town centre – with one man being arrested.

The incident, in which a 19-year-old man sustained cuts to his neck and buttocks, happened along Gervis Place, at its junction with Hinton Road, at around 1am on Sunday, 31 October 2010.

Detective Constable Liz Westaway, of Bournemouth and Poole CID, said:

“I understand that two groups of men were involved in an altercation outside of Bliss nightclub along St Peter’s Road.

“These two groups are said to have chased each other until they reached Gervis Place, near to the Beales department store.

“A further confrontation then took place.”

The injured man, from Buckinghamshire, was treated at Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

DC Westaway continued:

“This area was very busy at this time and I believe that a number of people may have seen what happened.

“I also understand that a number of vehicles had to manoeuvre around the groups, so it may be that a number of motorists also have information that may help me with my investigation.

“Any witnesses should contact me, in confidence, as soon as possible.”

A 20-year-old Bournemouth man was arrested and has been released on bail while enquiries continue.

Witnesses and anyone with information should contact Dorset Police in confidence on 01202 222 222 or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
