Two Women Arrested After Churchyard Fight

Two women have been arrested in Gillingham after two assaults in the town.

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward.

The incidents, in which two women sustained minor facial injuries, both occurred in the churchyard of St Mary’s Church, The Square, between 2.40pm and 3pm on Thursday, 24 March 2011.

Police Constable Stef Belton said:

“These two incidents took place as parents were collecting their children from the nearby school, so the area was reasonably busy at this time.

“It’s possible that someone, perhaps several people, may be able to assist me with this investigation. It’s important that I find out exactly what happened.

“Anyone who witnessed any unusual activity in the St Mary’s Church area during the afternoon of Thursday, 24 March is urged to contact me as soon as possible.”

Two Gillingham women, aged 18 and 40, were arrested and have been released on police bail while enquiries continue.
