The 'Gardens of Light' Festival turns the Lower Gardens into a winter wonderland, including an outdoor ice rink and a Santa's Grotto.

It will be launched on Friday 15th November by professional 'Dancing on Ice' skater Vicky Ogden and Olympic figure skater Robin Cousins.

Commissioned by the Bournemouth Town Centre BID company, the winter attractions will be open to the general public from November 16 2013 to January 6 2014.

Renowned lighting designer Michael Grubb, who worked on the master plan for the London 2012 Olympic Park, will be unveiling his new Bournemouth Light Pods.

There will also be a special guest appearance from Father Christmas, who will be giving guests a glimpse at his new grotto before it opens to the general public on Saturday November 16.

Lisa Tucker, chairman of the Town Centre BID Board, says:

"At the launch we will be giving our guests a first look at the wonderful winter wonderland that Bournemouth town centre has in store to entertain everyone this Christmas. We are looking forward to welcoming two skating stars to Bournemouth to show us what can be done with our bigger and better ice rink!

"We will also be lighting up the Bournemouth Gardens with the magical installations designed by Michael Grubb, which have just been shortlisted for the 2014 Lighting Design Awards. The judges will be paying a visit to the Gardens of Light Festival to select their winner, which is very exciting news!"

The Bournemouth Light Pods and entry into the Gardens of Light is completely free.
