As the Police and Crime Commissioner for Dorset it is my role to represent you, to ensure that your policing needs are met.

As the Police and Crime Commissioner for Dorset it is my role to represent you, to ensure that your policing needs are met.

My vision for Dorset is to strengthen the relationship between the police and the public. I intend to double the number of Special Constables in Dorset in my term of office and to draw on the "Olympic surge" we saw in 2012 in recruiting more volunteers to work with the police. I believe that as Robert Peel said all those years ago – 'the public are the police, and the police are the public'.

I have set up 25 Forums and Surgeries at locations across Dorset, so I can meet with you directly to hear your views on policing and crime. It assists me in developing my plans and I have acted on many issues that have come out of the forums, for example, concerns over 101, speeding and antisocial behaviour.

Victims are at the heart of everything I do and I am working hard on the creation of a Victim's Bureau that will launch in November. By time Phase two of the Bureau commences, it will be the first Victim’s Bureau in the country to operate on a multi-agency level. It will lead to more consistency in the updating of victims and a more streamlined service. I am also holding Victim Forums across Dorset to better understand and learn from the victim's journey.

Another key area of my work is Early Intervention. Recently, we won two national places to expand Early Intervention in Dorset, from birth. It is important that we identify the root cause of social problems rather than spend years afterwards treating the symptoms. I am delighted that our work is being recognised on a national level.

I am also passionate about reducing re-offending. I am working with the Force and partners on a mentoring scheme for offenders who pose the highest risk of reoffending. Greater support will be given to offenders, to access housing, training and employment. With the Force, I have also committed funds for the more advanced tagging of offenders.

It is important that we all work together to make Dorset a safer place, to live, visit and work and I continue to welcome your thoughts and ideas.
