Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault in Caddington near Luton that left two men with head injuries.

A group of youths attacked two men in their twenties in an alleyway in Manor Road close to the pond at about twenty to midnight on Saturday.

Both victims were taken to the Luton and Dunstable Hospital where they were treated for head injuries and later released.

Three 16-year-old boys were arrested near to the scene and taken to Dunstable Police Station where they were interviewed and later released on police bail pending further enquiries.

DS Sean Quinn, investigating, is keen to speak to any independent witnesses who saw what happened that night.

It is believed a group of five or six boys were in the Manor Road area between 9pm and midnight. The group may have been involved in two earlier attempted robberies and an assault on two 16-year-old boys.

He said: "I am keen to hear from anyone who remembers seeing a group of black and white 16-year-old boys outside the Caddington Sports & Social Club or in the Manor Road area on Saturday evening, between 9pm and midnight.

"This was a particularly nasty attack and we would urge the public to contact us."
