BMW Shooting: Man Charged

Police have charged a 22 year old man with attempted murder after a shooting in Luton where shots were fired at a car by a man on a motorbike.

The shooting in Fountains Road on Sunday 5 May 2013 is one of ten shootings there have been in Luton in 2013 so far.

The motorbiker made off towards Culverhouse Road where the bike crashed into a taxi. The rider then escaped on foot.

Khadeem Newell from Jasmine Road, Luton, has also been charged with possession of a Section One firearm. He was due to appear before Luton Magistrates' Court on Bank Holiday Monday 27 May.

Bedfordshire Police have now scaled back armed police patrols they put on to tackle the escalation in gun crime. They have told Heart they have done this because the threat level has now reduced.
