While most of the UK are seeing a decline in debt one charity say it is on the increase in St Albans.

Step Change Debt Charity say that people living in St Albans and coming to them for help owe on average £19,362

This compares to last year where they helped 284 people with an average debt of £18,437

Edward Ward from Step Change told Heart:

"Normally we would expect to see a decline as people pay off their debts and struggle to get credit through banks and credit cards but the people of St Albans seem to have increased their debt level which is extremely worrying "
