4 December 2010, 06:00

It’s now easier to find out whether where you live is at risk of flooding.

The codes have changed to make it easier for the public to understand the extent to which where they live is at risk of flooding.

Around 128,788 properties are in the floodplain in Hertfordshire, and parts of Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

In Northamptonshire 9,284 homes and 1,734 commercial properties are also at risk.

What’s also new this year is the Environment Agency’s website. It's been improved so you can see the up-to-date flood warning information, monitor the river or seal levels in your area and can check out the latest flood risk forecast in the country by visiting www.environment-agency.gov.uk/flood

Other ways you can get information on whether there is a flood warning in your area is by calling the Floodline on 0845 988 1188 – there you can received automated phone calls, texts, emails and also faxes.
