Luton: Housemate Killer Jailed For Life
A Polish man who argued with a house mate has been found guilty of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment at Luton Crown Court.
Konrad Kaczynski, aged 30, of Stockwood Crescent had pleaded not guilty to murdering 51 year old Wlodzimierz Jablonski after detectives from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Team launched a murder investigation in August 2012.
The court heard how Kaczynski had been involved in an argument with the victim on August 7 as they drank alcohol and watched TV in the house they shared with several other people.
Bedfordshire Police were called to the address at 8.31pm after receiving reports of a disturbance. Officers found Wlodzinierz suffering with head injuries and administered first aid until the Ambulance Service arrived and took him to hospital where he died 7 days later. A post mortem later confirmed the cause of death was due to a brain injury.
On Friday, the jury found Kaczynski unanimously guilty of murder and Judge Richard Foster sentenced him to life imprisonment, telling him that he must serve a minimum of 14 years before he can apply for parole.
On hearing the verdict, Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector John Arthur, told Heart: "This was a violent act that has resulted in a man losing his life and a family devastated by the loss of a loved one.
It is an extremely difficult job to break the news that someone’s loved one has died especially in circumstances such as this. Wlodzinierz’s death could have been avoided had Kaczynski shown some common sense and control. This case illustrates the dangers that excess alcohol poses and how a simple argument can leave a man dead and his family grieving.
I am satisfied with today’s result and I hope this will go some way to help Wlodzinierz’s family come to terms with what has happened."
