M1 J10-10A Closures This Weekend

12 March 2010, 16:00

Work to renovate the bridge over Newlands Road on the M1 near Luton began in September. The work involves replacing the bridge parapets and carrying out drainage and resurfacing work.

While the work is being carried out two lanes will remain open in both directions during peak hours until the work is completed in spring 2010.

To enable the completion of this major refurbishment and resurfacing scheme the following carriageway closures will take place over the weekend of Friday 12 - Monday 15th March:

Friday 12th March
Overnight closures of both carriageways between junctions 10 and 10 A from 8pm until 6am on Saturday morning. Northbound traffic wishing to exit the M1 at junction 10 will be diverted via M1 junction 11, A505 through Luton and the A1081 (Airport Way). Southbound traffic will follow the same diversion route.

Saturday 13th March
Overnight closure of southbound carriageway only from 8pm until 8am Sunday morning. Diversion as before.

Sunday 14th March - Monday 15th March.
Overnight lane closures on northbound carriageway only for two nights between 8pm and 5am the next morning. One lane will remain open.

Diversions using the M1 spur, particularly those travelling to Luton airport should allow extra time for their journeys.
