Part of the motorway has now reopened, 13 hours after it had to be closed following an accident.

There were sever delays on the anti-clockwise carriageway this morning (Wednesday January 26th) following an accident involving a lorry and a car between Junction 22 for London Colney and 21a for St Albans/Bricketwood – with queues of traffic going back to Junction 25 for Enfield.

The accident happened just before 10 o’clock last night (Tuesday January 25th). Diesel spilt onto the carriageway making it very dangerous for motorists. As a result part of the damaged motorway have to be dug up and relayed overnight and this work wasn’t complete until just after 11 o’clock this morning.

The traffic from the accident meant other roads nearby were very congested this morning.

It was slow around the St Albans area including the westbound A414 and M10 as well as the northbound A1M between Welham Green and Welwyn Garden City

Things have also been slow on the clockwise section of the M25 between 20 Kings Langley and 21 for the M1
