Filming's started in Hertfordshire on a new comedy film starring Simon Pegg and his Shaun Of The Dead co-star Nick Frost.

Scenes for 'The World's End' are being shot in Letchworth and Welwyn Garden City.  Pre-shooting began in the Hertfordshire towns on Friday 14 September 2012.  The majority of filming in the towns was set to take place between October and December 2012.

The film is directed by Edgar Wright, who also directed 'Shaun Of The Dead' (2004) and 'Hot Fuzz' (2007).

The film is summarised on the Internet Movie Database as follows: 'Twenty years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again.

'They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World's End.

'As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind's. Reaching The World's End is the least of their worries.'

The film is due to be released in summer 2013.

Drivers are being warned the filming in Welwyn Garden City and Letchworth will mean some car parking areas become out of bounds for a while, but Councillor Mandy Perkins from Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council says the impact on parking is worth the excitement and minor celebrity status that the area could get as a result of being heavily featured in the film.

"I'm really pleased that [Welwyn Garden City] will be showcased in a big feature film like this," she said. "It is starting to create a real buzz!

"There will be some minor inconvenience to car owners in parts of the town centre, but we have sent letters out to local businesses and residents who may be affected to explain what's happening."

North Hertfordshire District Council Leader, Councillor Lynda Needham, said: “This is a great opportunity for [Letchworth], and we hope that people in Letchworth and beyond share our enthusiasm given the potential benefits it will bring.  I know that hundreds of people attended the recent open casting sessions and there is already a buzz in the area.

“Throughout the filming period there will inevitably be a small amount of disruption caused to traffic, for example, and it may be that certain areas usually reserved for parking will be unavailable.  We're working closely with the film makers, as well as Hertfordshire Highways, to keep any disturbance to a minimum.”

Simon Pegg was previously been seen filming scenes for 'A Fantastic Fear of Everything' at a laundrette in Hemel Hempstead in July 2011.
