The Wanted have been announced as one of the major acts performing in Luton this Summer

The group will perform on Friday July 6th at Popes Meadow in the town as part of the Love Luton 2012 Festival.

The announcement was made earlier today at a special school assembly at Lea Manor High School.

Rob Lee, the Artistic Director of Love Luton 2012 said, "Bringing The Wanted to Luton is a real coup. The Brit Award nominated vocal group are well known for their amazing chart topping music. I was particularly eager to secure their involvement in Luton's biggest festival and cultural community event because of the level of social awareness and interest in the lives of young people they display through their tireless work in schools. My expectation is that ticket sales will be brisk in the coming weeks if their sold out spring tous is anything to go by. We are so excited to be bringing The Wanted to Luton for what will be the most amazing weekend this town has ever seen."

Tickets for the Friday 6 July performance are on sale now at www.luton.gov.uk/2012festival

A special early bird offer is in place until 7 April where single tickets can be purchased for just £30 and family tickets (four people - either one adult and three under 16s, or two adults and two under 16s) for £110. From 8 April onwards single tickets will be £35 and family tickets £130.

Tickets can also be purchased at the Visitor Information Centre in St George’s Square and The Hat Factory in Bute Street during box office hours. There are no phone bookings.

Cllr Hazel Simmons, Leader of Luton Borough Council, said: “We have been promising everyone for a long time that some of the biggest acts to ever come to Luton are performing at the festival and we are pleased to let everyone know who the first one is. The Love Luton 2012 Festival promises to be the most spectacular event in Luton's long and proud history and if the reaction of Lea Manor students today is anything to go by, tickets are going to be snapped up very quickly. I therefore encourage people to go to www.luton.gov.uk/2012festival as soon as possible to buy their tickets before they are sold out.”

Over the next few weeks, Luton Borough Council will be announcing more high profile acts confirmed to perform at Popes Meadow as part of the Love Luton 2012 Festival.

The festival will be packed with a huge range of activities including big-name music concerts, a spectacular carnival parade, school games, fireworks displays, Mela activities along with a kaleidoscope of music, comedy and dance leading up to a special Olympic Torch celebration event.
