A man from Haverhill who drove his car into two men has been jailed.

Jan Adamec collided with 28 year-old footballer Shaun Whiter and his friend 31 year-old Joey Abbs, both of whom played for Newmarket FC, as the pair were changing a flat tyre in July.

The 40 year-old drove off, leaving the players severely injured.

Shaun Whiter (pictured) had both his legs amputated below the knee.

Both players had a benefit match organised by Ipswich Town and Newmarket, played in their honour in July.

More than £91,000 has been raised online so far, for Shaun to walk down the aisle to marry his girlfriend next summer.

Mr Adamec, of Shetland Road in Haverhill, has been sent to prison for just over 3 years.
