Kittens Reportedly Thrown At Train Near Norwich

Officers are launching an appeal after a train driver reported seeing a person throw kittens at a train near Norwich.

Shortly before 5.20pm on Thursday 15 September, the driver of a Norwich to Great Yarmouth train service told police that he had witnessed kittens being thrown at the train from the undergrowth.

It is believed the incident occurred close to Lingwood station on a foot crossing.

BTP officers attended the scene and found a dead cat along with one dead kitten. It is understood that the cat had been deceased for some time prior to this incident. Four other kittens were recovered alive and were taken to Foxy Lodge Wildlife Rescue in Hemsby where they were treated by vets for cuts. So far, the rescue centre has been able to rehome two of the kittens.

Today, officers are appealing for information on this incident.

Police Sergeant Alan Bowell, said: “This was a truly horrendous and shocking incident. No animal should ever be subjected to such cruelty. Thankfully, not all the kittens were killed during this dreadful ordeal and are being well looked after.

“I am very keen to hear from anyone who might have information which can help us investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.”

A spokesperson from the RSPCA, said: "This sounds like a horrific incident for these poor kittens. Deliberate cruelty to animals is unacceptable and we would urge anyone with any information about this to come forward and contact the British Transport Police as soon as possible."

Anyone with any information should contact BTP by sending a text to 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 214 of 21/09/2016. Alternatively, you can pass information anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
