14 Year Old Assaulted In Hertford

Police are investigating the sexual assault of a teenage girl on Monday evening.

The 14-year-old was followed by a man down Railway Street between 8.30 and 9pm.

He then grabbed her, forced her into some bushes and sexually assaulted her.

The man's described as mixed race with dark, black hair swept to one side.

He was wearing a black Adidas hooded top which had a gold logo (wit the hood worn uo). He was also wearing black jogging bottoms and a silver chain.

Detective Inspector Dee Perkins from the specialist Sexual Offences Investigation Team says: "I believe the area may have been busy during these times and I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened or events leading up to or following the incident to contact police with information.

"I am particularly keen to hear from a woman who the victim approached after the assault to contact me.

"Whilst the victim was not badly injured during this serious incident, she has been left deeply shocked and is being supported by my officers. Where crimes such as these occur it is understandable that the wider community become concerned and I would like to reassure you that my officers are following all lines of inquiry and that there will be extra police officers in the area should members of the public need to speak with them."
