Arrest After Essex Memorial Urinated On

A woman has been arrested after pictures shared on social media appeared to show a war memorial in Grays being urinated on.

The 42-year-old was arrested by Essex Police on Saturday over the incident in the High Street.

The pictures were widely shared online on Friday as the nation marked the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, which claimed thousands of British lives.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "Police were made aware of a photograph circulating on social media on July 1 which showed the offence taking place by the war memorial on Grays High Street.

"A 42-year-old woman from Grays has been arrested this morning on suspicion of outraging public decency and is awaiting questioning in custody."
