Attempted Rape in Stanford-le-Hope

A man has tried to rape a woman in an alleyway in Stanford-le-Hope.

The victim, a woman in her 30s, was walking along Webster Road just after midnight when she was grabbed by a man in dark clothing a pushed to the floor.

He grabbed at her clothing, which then tore, before running off towards Hassenbrook School.

The woman suffered bruising to her face adn the area has been cordoned off while a forensic team investigate.

The offender is described as being a white male, around 5 ft 6 ins tall and wearing a black hooded top with dark jogging bottoms. He appeared intoxicated.

Investigating Officer Di Richard Sage said: "The suspect ran away after hearing voices in the area so I’m keen to speak to anyone who might have been around Websters Road or close by between the hours of 10pm and 1.30am.

"I would encourage anyone who was in the area to come forward and speak to police, any information may contain a vital clue as to who was responsible for this crime."
