Basildon: Armed Robbery At Newsagents

Essex Police are looking for a man who tackled an armed robber who stole a till from a newsagents in Basildon yesterday (Saturday January 7th).

It happened at Martins in Timberlog Lane after 5.30pm.

A member of the public who was in the store is believed to have chased the robber as he made his getaway from the store, but this man had left the scene before police arrived.

The robber is thought to have run off into an alleyway leading to Chittock Mead. No shots were fired and no-one was injured.

The robber is described as a black man, 5'4-5" wearing a black hoodie and a black scarf and carrying a yellow JD sports bag. The man who chased the suspect was white, late 20s to early 30s and wearing a khaki coloured coat and a white scarf.

DI Andy Waldie said, "I would like to hear from anyone who was in or around Martins at the time of the robbery, but especially from the brave man who chased after the robber."
