Basildon Man To Be Sentenced After Attempted Armed Robbery

A 31 year-old man from Basildon is due to be sentenced next month after admitting trying to rob a shop in the town armed with a kitchen knife.

Lyam Ridley threatened the shop manager of Cellar Plus on Whitmore Way on July 11, 2015 and demanded money from the till.

Essex Police said: "The victim picked up a stool to keep him at bay and refused to hand over any cash.

"Ridley, unemployed, of Gobions, Basildon, left empty handed.

"He admitted a charge of attempted robbery at Basildon Crown Court on Monday February 8. He is due to be sentenced in the week commencing March 7".
