Basildon: Slower Stretch On A127

Keep an eye on your speed if you're driving on the A127 from this evening, a new 40mph speed limit has been introduced.

A new 40mph speed limit is going to be in place between the A128 junction and the Fortune of War (Southend bound) from Monday 6th February.

It's being put in place as a safety measure following the identification of damage on the central reserve between the A128 and Dunton interchanges, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and fully enforceable until further notice.

A large section of the safety restraints system on the central reserve needs to be assessed and repaired, so the 40mph speed limit is being introduced to reduce the possibility of accidents while repairs are being arranged.

County Councillor Tracey Chapman, Cabinet Member for Highways & Transportation said: "The 40mph speed limit is required to ensure safety while repairs to the central reservation are arranged. We apologise for any inconvenience caused, and I thank motorists in advance for their patience at this time."
