22 October 2012, 12:00

A man's been left with severe cuts and bruises after an unprovoked assault in Basildon.

A 36 year old local man was attacked whilst walking past the Big Q shops on Whitmore Way at 1am on Saturday, October 13th.

He was set upon by a group of men and had to be taken Basildon University Hospital by paramedics where he was treated for his injuries and later discharged.

Investigating Officer, PC David St John, said: 'This assault caused the man to lose consciousness and memory of the event. Nothing was stolen from him so it makes the incident even more disturbing and confusing.

'We have had some witnesses to the event come forward, but none can offer any descriptions on the assailants.

'We know there were others in the area who have yet to come forward. We would urge them to do so.'

Anyone with information in connection with this assault is urged to contact investigating officers at Basildon police station on 101.
