Fraud suspects bailed after Great Leighs searched

Three people including two from Braintree arrested in connection with a £2.4 million VAT fraud have been bailed.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) criminal investigators made the arrests at homes in Essex and in Buckinghamshire yesterday.

Two business premises, including Great Leighs racecourse, were also searched.

A 63-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman were arrested at a residential address near Braintree, an HMRC spokeswoman said.

A second man aged 64 was arrested at a residential address in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.

All three have been released on bail until March after being questioned in relation to fraud by false representation, cheating the public revenue and money laundering.
