A 25 year-old man from the town was stabbed in the back and hip at St George's Park on Dunstable Drive just before 6pm on Saturday (9 April).

Essex Police said: "He was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge and remains in hospital in a serious but not life threatening condition.

"It is believed the incident was a targeted attack and witness reports lead police to understand around two youths may have been involved in the assault on the victim.

"The park and surrounding area was forensically searched last night and but now the cordons that were in place have been lifted.

"Anybody who witnessed the incident or who has any information but has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact officers at Braintree CID on Essex Police 101".
