One of Cambridgeshire's oddest traditions gets under way this morning...
Chelmsford: Large Fire At Scrapyard
Around 40 firefighters are tackling a large blaze in Chelmsford involving up to 5-thousand litres of diesel.
Crews were called to the scrapyard in Waltham Road, Boreham, just after 3.30pm on Wednesday afternoon.
A large amount of scrap metal is also involved.
Station Officer Dave Barritt said:"The fire is contained to the hydraulic machinery in the middle of the scrap yard.
"Fire crews are using foam to extinguish the fire."
Crews from Chelmsford, Baddow, Witham, Maldon and Basildon are dealing with the blaze.
The first rail freight service from the UK to China has arrived.
The contract of the current Chief Constable of Essex, Stephen Kavanagh, has been extended for a further four years.
A teacher, who worked in Chelmsford, has been charged with multiple offences relating to children.
