Chelmsford: More Than 100 Arrested At V Festival

19 August 2013, 11:09

Essex Police have arrested 114 people during V Festival in Chelmsford.

The majority of arrests have been for drugs offences detected by police sniffer dogs based at the entrances to the venue at Hylands Park.

As of 11pm last night (Sunday 18 August), officers had made 75 arrests for drug possession, 22 for drug-dealing, six for assaults, one for disqualified driving, two for theft, two for rowdy and disorderly behaviour, three for fraud and three drink-driving.

Policing co-ordinator, Chief Supt Andy Prophet, said: "All our officers have been doing a great job, working with the V-Festival organisers to make sure this fantastic event was a safe and fun one.

"The work of our drugs dogs in sniffing out those in supplying drugs has been a key element in our tactics this year and its one that has worked really well.

"We would like to thank all the festival-goers for taking note of our crime prevention advice and hope that they enjoyed the weekend. We would urge people to be mindful of their alcohol limits if they are going to drive home at the end of today or in the morning and be patient as the roads will be busy after the festival ends.

"If you have been a victim of crime, please do report it to us by calling 101."
