A woman has been grabbed by the throat and punched in the stomach by two men in Colchester.

The 23 year old was in an alleyway off Mersea Road, at around 1pm on Monday 17 June, when she was attacked.

The men made off with her earphones, mobile phone and tobacco when they were distrubed by a passer-by.

The woman suffered no injuries apart from a few red marks on her neck, but she was left shaken by the incident.

Investigating officer, Dc Sarah Corrigan said: "The victim mentioned a man who came to her assistance and potentially saw the suspects. I would like this man to make contact with me at Colchester CID."

The attackers were both white men in their early twenties.

One of them was about six feet tall, with dark brown hair and a dark beard. He was wearing a grey tracksuit with white Nike Airmax trainers.

The other was about 5ft 8ins tall and had a spotty face. He wore a hoody with a pocket around the stomach area, grey tracksuit trousers and black Reebok Classic trainers.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Dc Sarah Corrigan, or her colleagues at Colchester CID, on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
