A final decision is expected later on plans to created new communities in north Chelmsford over the next decade.

The North Chelmsford Area Action Plan has already been given Government approval.

Tonight (Wednesday 20 July) councillors at Chelmsford Council will make a final decision.

The proposals include:

  • 4,000 new homes
  • employment opportunities
  • a new railway station
  • 4 new primary schools
  • a new secondary school
  • 2 new doctor's surgeries
  • designated green spaces
  • new roads and transport links.

Chelmsford Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Growth, Neil Gulliver said: “This plan will steer the creation of new places to live and work in Chelmsford and therefore represents an important and exciting planning milestone.

"Changes in economic conditions and housing demand, combined with the need to address climate change and have a design-led approach to new development will lead to a different calibre of new development and Chelmsford will be at the forefront.”
