By-election To Replace Hanningfield

Ian Grundy has won the Essex County Council by-election for Stock - the seat previously occupied by Lord Hanningfield.

The disgraced peer, who is currently in jail for expenses fraud, was kicked off the council last month after losing his appeal against the conviction.

A poll for the election of a County Councillor for Stock was held on Thursday 8 September with Conservative Grudgy winning with 1820 votes.

Jesse Pryke (UKIP) received 736 votes, Maurice Austin (Labour) 273, Marian Elsden (Liberal Democrat) 160 and 80 for Reza Hossain (Green Party).
