Three men, arrested within half an hour of raiding a jewellers in Colchester, have been jailed for a total of 10 years.

They were caught by police following a seven-mile road and air pursuit through the town back in April.

Minutes earlier, the trio had robbed a jewellery store in Pelhams Lane making off with more than £6000 worth of rings and watches.

28-year-old Jonathan Simpson, of no fixed address, was jailed for 3 years.

35-year-old Clint Burnall, from Wellesley Road, Clacton, was jailed for 5 years.

27-year-old David Mullins, from Ellis Road, Clacton, was jailed for 2 years.

Detective Constable Steve King said: "The evidence against these men was so overwhelming they all pleaded guilty to robbery.

"I’m delighted these men have been brought to justice as a result of great team work between staff at the jewellery store, PCSOs and police officers on the ground, Essex Police controllers, the force helicopter and an off duty CCTV operator from Colchester Borough Council.”
