Essex: Storm Meeting Held

The Met Office is predicting gale-force winds could hit south Essex on Monday

A meeting has taken place to plan what to do if part of Essex gets hit by a big storm.

The Met Office has sent out a weather warning for the south of the county, which it predicts could get hit by gale force winds on Monday.

However, it says at this stage it doesn't know when it will hit or how bad it will be although it does state: "the public should be aware of the risk of damage to trees and structures, as well as the possibility of disruption to transport and power supplies."

The Essex Resilience Form - which is made of the likes of emergency services and the County Council - met yesterday to start putting plans in place in how deal with a potential storm.

Chairman of the Essex Resilience Forum, Chief Fire Officer David Johnson says a multi-agency response is already being planned: "A stakeholder teleconference is planned for midday when we will all be updated by the Met office.

"Advice to the public will be issued through a multitude of channels including media, various agency websites and social media channels.

"This is only a prediction at this stage and we would advise families in Essex to keep a close eye on the forecasts and respond to safety advice as it is issued."
