Five People Rescued From Sea In Shoeburyness

Five people have been rescued from the sea in Shoeburyness.

Emergency services, including an RAF Search and Rescue Helicopter, were called to water at Barge Pier at around 7.30pm yesterday.

The Thames Coastguard said: "Essex Police were first on scene and spotted the 5 persons in the water, 2 officers then affected a rescue. Southend Coastguard Rescue Team was very quickly on hand to render assistance.

"The Lifeboats recovered the 5 casualties and 2 police officers to a nearby slipway where there were assessed by Paramedics, then taken to local A&E suffering from minor injuries and the cold. Rescue 125 was stood down having provided high level illumination and eyes on the scene."
