A man has been charged with the murder of a teenage boy in Grays.

Police were called to a flat off Roseberry Road at 11am on Monday (17 February) and found the boy with knife wounds.

He was given first aid but died a short while later.

An Essex Police spokeswoman said: "The victim has not been formally identified but is believed to be 14-year-old Breck Bednar from Caterham in Surrey.

"The preliminary results from the post mortem examination indicate that he died as a result of a wound to the neck.''

She said the boy's family was being supported by police family liaison officers.

18-year-old Lewis Daynes, a computer engineer of Roseberry Road, Grays, will appear before magistrates in Basildon today.
