Grays Man Remanded After 'Car Driven At PCSO'

A man accused of driving a car at a police officer has appeared before magistrates.

The officer, who was controlling traffic while colleagues and paramedics tried to revive a man who had collapsed, had to jump out of the way during the incident.

Piotr Kostuj, 19, of Conway Gardens, Grays, appeared at Basildon Magistrates' Court on Thursday charged with dangerous driving, attempted grievous bodily harm, failing to stop for police, driving without insurance and having an invalid driving licence.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Basildon Crown Court on September 1st.

The incident happened on Tuesday after a man aged in his 70s was taken ill at Orsett Road, Grays. He was later confirmed to have died at the scene.

As a PCSO directed traffic, a car drove at her forcing her to jump out of the way. The driver of the vehicle was arrested a short time later.
