A pensioner has needed major surgery after he was attacked by a group of teenagers in Harlow leaving him with a broken hip and arm.

The 76-year-old was walking through an underpass between Staple Tye and Bishopsfield at around 5.15pm on Wednesday October 16 as he returned from the shops.

The man was approached by the suspects who are all thought to be aged between 14 and 19-years-old.

The first is described as tall, white, thin and very aggressive. He had light hair but was wearing a hood.

The second boy was smaller with dark hair, dark skin, and was wearing a grey hood with possibly a brown cap underneath.

The victim did not manage to get a description of the other two.

Ds Mick Orr, of Harlow CID, said: "This was a totally unprovoked attack on a 76-year-old man who on his way to the shops to get a lottery ticket.

"We are appealing for information and witnesses to come forward if they recognise the descriptions or have seen any of these people at or around the time of the assault. We would also like to speak to a woman who helped the victim after the attack."
