A man in his 60s from Maidstone, in Kent, has died following a road traffic collision on London Road at Purfleet Docks.

The man was driving an articulated heavy goods vehicle and was about to leave the port at around 7pm on Thursday August 6 when it struck a portable building and then a gate and some signage.

The driver was treated on scene by paramedics before being transferred to Darenth Valley Hospital where he sadly died a short while later.

The port entrance where the collision took place was closed for a period of four hours to enable Police to carry out an investigation.

Inspector Steve Brewer said: "At this time it would appear the driver may have been taken ill at the wheel of his lorry and then lost control."
