Illegal Traveller Camp Set To Stay For Another Week
Heart has been told it could be another week before an illegal traveller camp at a car park in Chelmsford is moved on.
Seven caravans set up in the car park on the Essex Records Office on Wharf Road more than a fortnight ago (Monday, 25 January) and it has been closed ever since.
Chelmsford City Council, which owns the car park, said at the time "urgent" legal action was being taken to remove the camp.
Then last week Heart was told Essex Police were also involved in trying to remove them.
However, the camp remains on the site and has potentially cost the Chelmsford taxpayer thousands of pounds in lost revenue and legal costs.
A spokesperson for Chelmsford City Council said "Papers will be served on the travellers very shortly and a Court Hearing has been arranged for early next week.
"We are continuing dialogue with the Police who are monitoring the site on a daily basis."
A man from Colchester has been jailed for 25 years for conspiring to murder his stepfather.
The first of the 66 Crossrail trains is in operation from today running on the TFL route between Liverpool Street and Shenfield.
A crackdown, aimed at tackling online child abuse in Essex has seen more than 40 people arrested in the last six months.
