Investigation Into Southend Flat Fire

An investigation has started into a flat fire in Southend which has left a woman with life-threatening injuries.

Seven fire crews were called to a fire in a ninth floor flat on Balmoral Road at around 11.15pm on Saturday (7 May).

Three people, including a baby, were rescued.

A 30 year-old woman from Southend suffered life-threatening injuries.

Chief Inspector and District Commander for Southend, Simon Anslow said: "The cause of the fire is under investigation and detectives are looking at the circumstances leading up to the incident.

"I ask anyone who was in that area around that time to get in contact. Did you see any suspicious activity?"
