Lord Hanningfield Expenses Fraud Trial Starts
Former leader of Essex County Council, Lord Hanningfield, is due to stand trial today charged with expenses fraud.
The 75 year-old from West Hanningfield, whose real name is Paul White, is accused of false accounting.
It relates to 11 claims totalling £3,300 for travel expenses and daily allowance at the House of Lords in July 2013 for which he allegedly turned up for 40 minutes or less.
Lord Hanningfield's solicitor has stated any attendances cut short were due to ill-health.
The trial is due to start at Southwark Crown Court this morning.

A teacher, who worked in Chelmsford, has been charged with multiple offences relating to children.
