The former Essex County Council leader, Lord Hanningfield, could be banned from the House of Lords for 9 months.

The disgraced Tory peer was released from jail in September after serving just a quarter of his sentence for fiddling his parliamentary expenses.

The House of Lords Privileges and Conduct Committee have recommended that Lord Hanningfield should face a nine month ban - the same amount of time as his original prison sentence.

If approved by peers, the suspension would run from the date he was sentenced earlier this year.
