Police were called to reports of a man found injured on Market Pavement just after 5.30pm on Tuesday (28 June).

He died at the scene.

Officers believe the victim is 37 year-old Daniel Mitchell-Monroe from Pitsea and tests have shown he died from a stab wound to the chest.

22 year-old Joram Bakumanya, of no fixed address, was arrested and has now been charged with murder.

He is due before Basildon Magistrates' Court today.

Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Al Pitcher, of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: "The incident happened in a busy area of Basildon town centre and there would have been a lot of people in the area of Market Pavement at the time.

"We continue to appeal for anyone who saw what happened or has any information to please contact us".
